I’m not a particular fan of the series, I’ll admit that. Really, I only watched one cover to cover and out of moral obligation as Don Draper’s story couldn’t stay in the air. Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Dark and many more storylines happened before my eyes and I didn’t finish them like I should have.

My problem is that I have to do a real binge of episodes. Since there is a season break, it is very likely that he will end up leaving. However, As Dusk Falls is already in the honorable exception category. The work of Interior/Night captivated me so much in the first few hours that I already marked the release date in red on my calendar.


Thanks to the preview provided by Microsoft, I resigned myself to the captivating plots. It was two hours of departure for the first two chapters in which we are introduced to their characters in a simple, clear way and with a thread that always pulls. In different time jumps, we see the lives of two families intersect in the worst possible way and with unexpected consequences. Of course, I’ll only give a few brush strokes to the story so as not to ruin the experience.

May 29, 1998, Route 66 in Arizona, USA. A family finds themselves at a stopover on their long journey to Missouri, and it may be the only time everything is perfectly normal. A father controlled by us plays with his daughter, the grandfather walks the dog and while the mother sleeps relaxed in the car.

However, the pieces on the board get caught up in daily conversations that leave us with breadcrumbs to remind us why there is such a bad relationship between father-in-law and daughter-in-law, or our protagonist’s doubts about facing his fears. On the other hand, three brothers decide to rob the town sheriff’s house in a ruthless operation to get a good loot. They don’t appreciate the risk because they’re already used to the world of crime.

If you’re a regular at the narrative adventures of Supermassive Games, Telltale Games, or Don’t Nod, you already know what this is about. Here it is important to choose, to act, to think about what the most successful action is and what could be triggered in the shortest possible time. But unlike what I’ve experienced in this genre, the tension is absolutely constant.

The surprise as a tonic

And it’s like I suffered playing As Dusk Falls, but in the best possible way. In most cases, the options they show you seem equally valid, and this creates a brutal indecisiveness that must be resolved in fifteen seconds or less. I’m talking about whether or not you should throw a person out of your life, or whether you should ruthlessly attack them from behind.

To add even more drama, the study incorporated key moments as crossroads. Basically, we’re talking about extreme situations where the narrative changes drastically depending on what we decide. I’m not content with having my nails bited, but if you hold on a little longer, a new decision may emerge. A constant puzzle in which you feel yourself to be a fundamental part and which reaches a brutal pace in a very short time.

Script twists are also part of Interior/Night’s arsenal, with highlights in the form of constant cliffhangers. To do this, he takes us to another moment with the same characters, revealing an intimacy, a secret that we could not have guessed. After placing such a bomb on a tray, he brings us back into the ring and lets us play with the new data in mind.

Finally, after completing each chapter, As Dusk Falls will show us what results we have achieved. There is no real evaluation, our qualities are simply highlighted, whether positive or negative. Additionally, a huge visual map shows all possible implications with the percentage of players who made each decision. With so many forks, the replayability is said to be pretty high.

I’ve had a fabulous time playing solo, but the developer offers a radically different experience. It is possible to play in multiplayer format with eight simultaneous users, locally or online (or a combination). As if that wasn’t enough, you don’t even need to know how to control one command or have another to start a game together.

A complementary application allows us to play in a simple way, so accessibility is the order of the day. The work is very receptive to all types of audiences, with constant guidelines on how to respond to different events. We can’t just sit back and watch how we do it in The Quarry, but we have a lot of tools in front of us and we’re being told what we can do with each one.

Interior/Night’s work breathes the atmosphere of the great American series and all of this is backed up by a truly impressive performance by its actors. The aesthetic is that of a moving graphic novel, so we see each character’s action in different frames. Fundamental and noteworthy in this aspect is the dubbing into Spanish with luxurious voices.

I’m caught in the web of As Dusk Falls and I don’t want to do more than wrap myself in it after leaving myself with honey on my lips. On July 19th everything will be ready for the surprises to jump on Xbox Series X / S, PC, Steam and from day one on Xbox Game Pass.
