When Blizzard announced they were working on a new video game called Diablo Immortal, a new installment in the saga for mobile, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from it. On the one hand I wanted to try it, on the other hand playing a title from the saga on a device of this type didn’t really convince me. I play Pokémon GO very often on a daily basis, and on rare occasions I’ve played a game of League of Legends: Wild Rift, but no more.

I’m not too comfortable playing anything with a phone in a horizontal position, but I can’t deny that Diablo is one of my favorite sagas, so I couldn’t ignore the fact that I gave this newly released adventure a chance in the first place a few days earlier. Also, anyone can try it because it’s free.

While it’s true that Diablo Immortal is available for PC, my first impressions have focused solely on the mobile version, specifically on Android. Mainly because it’s the original version, since the version released on computers is nothing more than an open beta. So after dedicating a good handful of hours to it, I proceed to tell you how my journey through Sanctuary was.

Time to save Sanctuary once again from the evil that lurks

That will take us through numerous areas where we will come across demonic creatures and other hellish beings of the most powerful that we will have to destroy if we want to grab the stones to destroy them once and for all. The path will not be easy, but at least we will have completely new characters and other faces on our side that will be very familiar to fans of the series.

The main missions won’t be particularly long, which is great for picking up your phone whenever you want, playing for a while and picking up the progression right where we left off. And if someone wants to switch from one version to another, they can do it without any problems because the game is saved in the account.

The tasks to be completed are nothing new in the saga, as it’s practically the usual objective of getting to a certain point, eliminating all enemies that appear along the way, and usually eliminating a mini-boss or a more devastating final boss. Despite everything, the plot is very well executed and very interesting, with Spanish subtitles, although the voices are in English.

In any case, both the main and side missions are nothing more than a mere excuse to advance, improve our character and level up little by little. In this way we can acquire new skills that will be unlocked or improved over time, which is handy together with the pieces of equipment so that everyone can customize their character as they wish, but it is also true that something is missing here compared to Diablo II more depth, especially in the stats.

The pleasant surprise I had playing a devil on a mobile phone

The fact that the game is also available for PC doesn’t matter, because at all times it is clear that Diablo Immortal was developed primarily for its interface for mobile devices. As I mentioned in the beginning, I had some reservations about playing this way in case it was uncomfortable, but the truth is that it took almost no time to get used to and fully immersed in the action.

The controls are the most intuitive to move from side to side with the left hand, while the right hand is used to unleash all the skills of our characters, with a basic one that we can use all the time and four others with their respective ones cooldowns. Everything is perfectly marked so as not to lose sight of a single detail of what is happening on the screen.

What has also forever surprised me is that it runs very smoothly. I didn’t notice any snag or negative aspect in its performance worth highlighting, which is appreciated in a title of this type with such frenetic action and, by the way, very similar to that of Diablo III. There were even times that if they told me that it was a mobile version of this third part, I would have believed it.

Another reason I was pleasantly surprised by its performance is the fact that the scenarios are open world. This means that the games are not limited to a certain number of players, since it is necessary to choose the server where we want to play, where we will meet other people going from one place to another, fighting, completing missions and talk to each other etc. which is no doubt handy for bonding or not feeling alone in this ruthless world.

All this we will appreciate especially in the capitals, which will act as an area of operations, where we will have at our disposal all kinds of shops to recycle pieces of equipment, place gems and better prepare our character for the challenges battles that will be ahead of us. With that in mind, in everything I’ve played I’ve never had to go to the checkout to purchase items that might help me not be in too much of a rush.

I admit that I still have a long way to go before I reach the end of Diablo Immortal and have to face this endgame that is so heavily criticized by the community for its monetization system. Maybe by then my opinion of the game will change completely, but the first bars left me with fantastic sensations, much better than I expected and with the joy of knowing that I’ll be able to play a new Diablo , one of the most entertaining and fun, always and everywhere in my hand.
